Letter from Chris Gero  -  Winter 2014

Yamaha continues to be known for quality, and we strive to make the entire musical process a truly rewarding experience for every artist and audience. During the last 125 years, we’ve been lucky enough to make lifelong impressions with many of our musicians. I want to bring your attention to one particular Yamaha artist, bassist Nathan East.

Nathan has been a member of our Yamaha family for 33 years. He has worked alongside some of the greats including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, George Harrison, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Whitney Houston, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, Joe Satriani, Kenny Loggins, Daft Punk and literally hundreds more. His numerous award-winning accolades include a U.S. Congressional Record for his contributions to American music and the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting, Great Britain's most celebrated music award. Throughout Nathan’s successful career, I’ve gotten to know him as one of our artists, but more than that, he has become a friend.

After decades of legendary work, Nathan has finally decided to release his first solo album, and it is definitely worth the wait. I was lucky enough to help lead this effort, producing and collaborating with Nathan for the making of his self-titled album in our state-of the-art recording studio in Franklin, TN. The album will feature various original tracks and covers, scanning the R&B, pop, rock and jazz genres. Songs include Pat Metheny's “Letter From Home” and “101 Eastbound” by Fourplay, a band East is a founding member of. To give you a taste of what is to come, we released his cover of “Sir Duke” on our Yamaha Entertainment Group Facebook page, so be sure to check it out. It’s an amazing tribute to one of Nathan’s well-known friends Stevie Wonder.

Throughout the recording process, Nathan has made sure to make this album a celebration not only of his musical life but his musical friends as well. The album features appearances by Eric Clapton, Sara Bareilles, Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald, and more. Through and through, we are proud to stand by Nathan in making his solo debut as outstanding as his renowned career.

It is truly gratifying to help artists and musicians express themselves. Being able to work with Nathan has been nothing but rewarding and exciting. To see more on Nathan, his new album, and recording with Yamaha turn to page 30.

We couldn’t have had all of this success without your support. We love hearing from you so please engage with us on Facebook andTwitter or visit us at www.YamahaEntertainmentGroup.com. At Yamaha Entertainment Group, we are artists; we are music; we are Yamaha. Here’s to 2014, and may it be as wonderful as the past 125 years.

Kindest Regards,
Chris Gero
