YAMAHA ENTERTAINMENT GROUP SUPPORTS THE 88TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS
By Providing Pianos For Sam Smith, The Weeknd and Lady Gaga’s Performances
NASHVILLE, Tenn. February 29, 2016 – Yamaha Entertainment Group of America was proud to support the biggest night in film by providing pianos for Oscar nominated performing artists Sam Smith, The Weeknd and Lady Gaga. Comedian Chris Rock hosted the 88th Academy Awards live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 28.
Sam Smith kicked off the evening’s performances by singing “Writing’s On The Wall” from “SPECTRE,” which went on to receive the 2016 Oscar for Best Original Song. Smith was backed by a Yamaha C7XSH Grand Piano during his dramatic performance.
The Weeknd’s Able Tesfaye performed “Earned It,” his Oscar nominated hit from the film “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Yamaha artist Stephan Moccio accompanied the song on a Yamaha C7XSH Grand Piano. Dancers and trapeze artists joined the stage to reenact the sultry music video live for the audience.
Lady Gaga was the final musical number with a powerful and emotional performance of “Til It Happens To You” from “The Hunting Ground.” While passionately playing a white Yamaha DCFIIISPRO Grand Piano, Lady Gaga invited sexual assault survivors to the stage to join her and hold hands at the conclusion of her performance.
“It is an honor to support our dedicated artists and see them rewarded for their commitment to music in film,” commented Chris Gero, Yamaha Entertainment Group founder and vice president.
